What is a landing page, with examples for small businesses
A landing page is a web page with one single goal: getting the visitor to do one specific thing. Book an appointment, call, reserve a table, sign up or ask for a quote. It is called a landing page because it is where people land after tapping an ad, an Instagram link or a QR code.
If you are wondering what a landing page is compared with a normal website, that is the whole difference. A website tells people everything you do and lets them wander around. A landing page talks about one thing and walks the visitor straight to a button.
What a landing page is for
Think of your website as your shop window, with everything you offer. A landing page is the flyer for one particular offer: short, clear and with a single call to action.
It makes sense in situations like these:
- An ad campaign. If you pay for every click on Google or Instagram, that click should land on a page about exactly what you advertised, not on your home page.
- A seasonal offer. The Christmas set menu, September enrolment, an air conditioning service before summer.
- A new service. You have started offering facials at your beauty salon and want people to know.
- An event. An open day, a wine tasting, a pottery workshop.
- When you do not have a website yet. A well-made landing page is enough to start getting customers while you decide on the rest.
How it differs from a website
- One goal, not several. A website covers everything. A landing page asks for one thing.
- No menu, or a very small one. Every link that does not lead to the button is an exit.
- Copy written for someone specific. A person arriving from an ad for "sports physiotherapy in Bilbao" wants to read about that, not about the history of the clinic.
- Easy to measure. How many people visit and how many book. That tells you whether the campaign works.
- It can have an end date. Many only last as long as the offer. Your website stays.
You do not have to choose one or the other. Most businesses keep their website and add landing pages for specific campaigns.
What a good landing page needs
A headline that says what you offer
"Teeth whitening in Seville, first consultation free" works better than "Your smile, our passion". The first one says what, where and why now. The second says nothing.
A line that explains who it is for
Under the headline, one or two lines on who it is for and what they get. "For teams of up to 30 looking for a Christmas dinner venue in central Burgos."
A clear button
"Book now", "Reserve a table", "Call us". Visible without scrolling, and repeated halfway down and at the end. Always the same one.
Reasons to trust you
Real customer reviews, years in business, photos of your premises and your team, your professional registration number if you are a lawyer or a physio. People do not know you yet: give them reasons.
Answers to common questions
Price, how long it takes, where you are, whether there is parking, what happens if they need to cancel. Every unanswered question is someone who leaves without getting in touch.
A short form
Name, phone number and, at most, one field to tell you what they need. Every extra field makes someone give up halfway.
Fast on mobile
If they come from Instagram or WhatsApp, they are on a phone. If the page is slow, they leave before reading the headline.
Landing page examples for small businesses
Use these as a starting point. Notice that each one has a direct headline and a single button.
Dental clinic: teeth whitening
- Headline: "Teeth whitening in Seville, first consultation free."
- Button: "Book your appointment."
- Must include: the price or a starting price, before and after photos from patients who agreed to it, and how many sessions it takes.
Language school: September enrolment
- Headline: "English for kids in Getafe. Groups of 8, enrolment open."
- Button: "Save a place."
- Must include: timetables, age groups, monthly fee and a free level test.
Wedding photographer: available dates
- Headline: "Wedding photography in Asturias. Dates still open for 2027."
- Button: "Check your date."
- Must include: a short gallery of your best work and what each package includes. There is an idea of how it could look in websites for photographers.
Restaurant: company dinners
- Headline: "Company dinners in central Burgos, for 10 to 40 people."
- Button: "Ask for the menu and a date."
- Must include: two or three set menus with the price per person, photos of the dining room and the booking deadline.
Lawyer: inheritance
- Headline: "Dealing with an inheritance? A free 30 minute first consultation."
- Button: "Tell me about your case."
- Must include: who you are, how you work and a list of the most common questions. More ideas in websites for lawyers.
Locksmith: emergencies
- Headline: "Emergency locksmith in Málaga. Same day call-outs."
- Button: "Call now", with the number in plain sight.
- Must include: the areas you cover, the call-out fee and your real hours. If you do not work nights, do not promise it.
Mistakes that stop a landing page from working
- Sending the ad to your home page instead of a page of its own.
- Three different buttons asking for three different things.
- A form with ten fields.
- A pretty headline that does not say what you sell.
- Hiding the phone number, especially for urgent services.
- Not looking at the numbers. If you do not know how many people visit and how many get in touch, you do not know whether the campaign pays off.
How to make a landing page without the hassle
You can build one with any website builder, with a dedicated landing page tool, or pay someone to do it. What matters is that you can change it quickly, because a landing page gets fine-tuned over time: a new headline, a different photo, one less field in the form.
With Taraceista you describe the offer and the AI builds the page. Then you adjust it by pointing at the part you want to change and saying what you want. Form submissions arrive in your email, and you get cookie-free visitor stats to see how many people visit and how many get in touch. You can see an example in landing page with Taraceista.
